Tibia vara in Asians: Myth or fact? Verification with three-dimensional computed tomography

چکیده

Background: There is a common perception among surgeons that Asian tibiae are significantly more varus compared to non-Asians, contributed both by an acute medial tibial proximal angle (MPTA) and diaphyseal bowing. Insight into the normative morphology of tibia allows generation knowledge towards disease processes subsequently planning for corrective surgeries. Methods: Computed tomography (CT) scans 100 normal adult knees, aged 18 years above, were analysed using 3-dimensional (3D) analysis software. All first aligned standard frame reference then rotationally centroid axis (TCAx) transmalleolar (tmAx). MPTA was measured from best-fit planes on surface each rotational alignment. Diaphyseal bowing assessed dividing shaft three equal portions establishing between distal segments. Results: The mean 87.0° ± 2.2° (mean SD) when TCAx 91.6° 2.7° tmAx. 0.1° 1.9° 0.3° 1.6° valgus difference with two different alignments (TCAx tmAx) 4.6° 2.3°. No statistically significant differences observed males females. Post hoc tests revealed in ethnic sub-groups. Conclusion: disease-free knee inherently but not so than other reported populations. profile MPTA, negligible These implications relevant surgical prosthesis design.

Quantum coherence: myth or fact?

It has recently been argued that the inability to measure the absolute phase of an electromagnetic field prohibits the representation of a laser’s output as a quantum optical coherent state. This argument has generally been considered technically correct but conceptually disturbing. Indeed, it would seem to place in question the very concept of the coherent state. Here we show that this argumen...

Femoral deformity in tibia vara.

BACKGROUND Previous studies have suggested that compensatory valgus deformity of the femur is common in patients with tibia vara, or Blount disease. The availability and routine use of standing long-cassette radiographs of the lower extremities to assess angular deformities has allowed quantitative evaluation of this hypothesis. METHODS The cases of all patients with tibia vara, two years of ...

Hypercalciuria following ceftriaxone a fact or myth

INTRODUCTION Nephrolithiasis is a common worldwide problem both in children and adults. Ceftriaxone as a widely used antibiotic can contribute to the formation of renal stones and hypercalciuria. OBJECTIVES To find the effect of ceftriaxone, a widely used antibiotic, on urinary calcium excretion rate in children. PATIENTS AND METHODS 84 infants and children over 3 months admitted to hospita...
